10 lakh children at risk of starvation in Afghanistan: UN Children's Fund had warned.

Afghanistan has been in the grip of a severe economic crisis since coming under Taliban control in August last year.

The people of Afghanistan are living in abject poverty due to the freezing of government assets and international sanctions on the Taliban and the suspension of foreign aid.

The UN says 10 lakh children in Afghanistan are at risk of starvation if emergency measures are not taken. The Children's Fund had warned.

According to the Ministry of Public Health, 12 children have died of malnutrition in Kunduz province since the beginning of this year.

The ministry said that despite the increasing number of malnourished children, no care centers were functioning.

Hamayun Safi, head of the hospital's nutrition department, said 438 malnourished children had been admitted to the hospital.
