The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) has demanded that the devolution of power within the constitution be implemented if the Rajapakse government's austerity measures are to end.

This was stated by the leader of the Tamil speaking parties Rauff Hakeem who spoke to the media after the joint meeting held in Colombo.

He said the Kottapaya-Mahinda-led government was taking advantage of the freeze on provincial councils in Sri Lanka.

He noted that the discussion also focused on the continuing drag on India's promises to the 13th Amendment.
