Ramanyake charged for second contempt of court case

Former MP Ranjan Ramanayake was sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment, suspended for five years, over the second contempt of court case filed against him.

The sentence was announced by a three-member bench comprising of Justices Buwaneka Aluwihare, L.T.B. Dehideniya and Gamini Amarasekara.

Ramanayake previously pleaded guilty to the second contempt of court case filed against him at the Supreme Court, over a controversial statement he made about the composition of the Supreme Court judge bench hearing the petitions filed against the President’s dissolution of Parliament in 2018.

The former Parliamentarian was sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment in January last year on charges of another contempt of court case, which he is currently serving.
