The United Nations Population Fund has conducted a study in Sri Lanka.

The study aims to gather information on accidents, suicides and the motive behind the killing of women

This is the first time such a study has been conducted in Sri Lanka.

Of the 243 murders of women in Sri Lanka between 2013 and 2015, 128 were committed by their legal husbands.

Of the 243 unnatural deaths during the period, 62 per cent were caused by women's legal husbands or ex-husbands or family members.

At the same time, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) said in a statement that 69 percent of such incidents were unreported.
