The Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) has said it has reasonable doubts whether the head of state will destroy the country's education as it has destroyed the country's agriculture through unwise policy decisions.
Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Union Joseph Stalin further stated,
The decisions taken by the government from time to time have caused massive problems in many sectors of the country. The government's views on public universities are currently being questioned.
Kothalawala University Act is the law that privatizes education. Citing the head of state's sentiments regarding making higher education a foreign exchange earning system, he questioned who was advising him.
Despite having three ministers, the education system is riddled with problems. Professor GL Peiris, Dallas Alagapperuma and Dinesh Gunawardena have been appointed to boycott education, said Mahinda Jayasinghe, secretary of the Ceylon Teachers' Service Union.
