The United Nations Special Rapporteurs have jointly called for a complete overhaul of the anti-terrorism law in Sri Lanka and for action to amend its adverse provisions.
They made the request in a letter to President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, urging him to ensure that human rights are properly respected and protected under the anti-terrorism mechanism.
They also demanded that the use of the PTA be suspended until the necessary amendments are made to the PTA.
It recalls that we have already pointed out the provisions of this Terrorism Prohibition Act which are of great concern and urge your Government to immediately review it in accordance with international law.
