89 women are raped in India every day; 49 crimes per hour: NCRP data

In India, 89 women are raped every day and 49 crimes are committed against women every hour, according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRP).

NCRP is an organization under the control of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. 

According to NCRB, 31 thousand 677 rape cases have been registered in 2021 alone. There were 28,046 rapes in 2020 and 32,033 in 2019. 

Rajasthan recorded the highest number of rapes at 6,337 last year. Following this, 2,947 women were raped in Madhya Pradesh, 2,496 in Maharashtra and 2,845 in Uttar Pradesh. 1,250 rape cases were reported in Delhi.

If we take the crime rate as the highest 16.4 percent per lakh population happens in Rajasthan. It is followed by Chandigarh with 13.3%, Delhi with 12.9%, Haryana with 12.3% and Arunachal Pradesh with 11.1%. The India-wide average is 4.80%.

In 2021, 4 lakh 28 thousand 278 cases were reported against women. The crime rate is 64.50% per lakh population. The charge-sheet filing rate in criminal cases is 77.10%

Crime against women was 3,71,503 in 2020 and 4,05,326 in 2019. Crime against women includes rape, rape and murder, dowry, acid throwing, incitement to suicide, kidnapping, forced marriage, human trafficking, online harassment, etc.

In 2021, maximum number of criminal cases against women were reported in UP. UP has reported 56,083 cases, Rajasthan 40,738, Maharashtra 39,526, West Bengal 35,884 and Odisha 31,352. In terms of crime rate, Assam tops the list at 168.3%. It is followed by Delhi 147%, Odisha 137%, Haryana 119% and Telangana 111%.
