Intensifying Sri Lankan political conflicts

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse has reportedly decided to hold a major discussion on the current emergency as leading party leaders aligned with the government have been critical of the government.

The Prime Minister is reported to have taken the decision only after a secret discussion  Wednesday night.

Minister Wimal Weerawansa and Minister Ali Sabri were also reported to have joined the secret discussion.

However, Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara and Communist Party leader Du Gunasekara have also strongly criticised the government this week.

Vasudeva Nanayakkara, who was participating in a YouTube debate, said he should resign because he could no longer be in this government.

Meanwhile, D.U Gunasekara told the media that this was a stupid government. The media reported that his criticism was harsh and ruthless.

The situation is so bad that it has been decided that the Prime Minister will meet the President next week with other major party leaders for a direct discussion.
