There Will Be No Food By April - Warns Professor

Methika Vithanage, a professor in the Faculty of Applied Sciences at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, has warned that there will be no food for the people of this country until April next year.

He told a Sinhala media that although cultivation activities for the Maha season were yet to begin, the government had not yet taken steps to provide the required fertilizer.

He also pointed out that the country could not expect an adequate harvest by applying only organic liquid fertilizers.

The professor pointed out that the Great Season was the most important and most productive season in the country and no experiments could be carried out during that season.

He added that food shortages were inevitable as the government ignored the findings of scholars and researchers in the field of agriculture.
