The Vatican has focused on the presidential task force on 'One Nation, One Law' appointed by head of state Gotabhaya Rajapakse.
The Catholic Bishops Council of Sri Lanka reported on the state president's task force on 'One Nation - One Law', a news website run by the Catholic Church in the Vatican.
The Catholic Bishops Council of Sri Lanka has urged the Government to cancel the Gazette Notification naming members of the Head of State Task Force on 'One Nation - One Law' and draft a new constitution to ensure that all citizens are treated equally before the law.
Under the leadership of "a hard-headed Buddhist monk," he studied the idea and framed a bill.
Gotabhaya Rajapakse, who was elected head of state in 2019 with the support of Sri Lanka's majority Buddhist community, had the concept of 'One Nation One Law', according to the Vatican news website.
The Vatican news website also reported on Thera, the head of the Head of State's Task Force on 'One Nation- One Law', as a controversial figure in Sri Lanka.
The website also mentions that his Budubala Sena was involved in the 2013 anti-Muslim riots in the country.
He was sentenced to six years in prison last year for contempt of court and pardoned in the months after his sentence, according to Vatican news.
At the same time, the lack of Tamil representation in the Head of State Task Force on 'One Nation- One Law' has also come under criticism.
