Sri Lanka is on the list of the most severely repressed independent media in the world

The French-based RSF, a non - governmental media organization based in France, has released its annual report, which includes Sri Lanka, one of the world's most persecuted media outlets.


The report, released by the Borderless Media Organization, the world's leading media watchdog, has accused countries around the world of severely cracking down on independent media.

Sri Lanka is ranked 127th in the list of 180 countries.

Scandinavian countries Norway, Finland, Sweden and Denmark are in the top 4 in terms of countries that effectively maintain media freedom.

The Borderless Media Network has condemned dictatorial regimes that use the corona epidemic to bring the media under dictatorship and label the media as anti-government, anti-national or pro-terrorism.

The group also said that criminal cases were being filed against independent media outlets with the complicity of the police in countries including Sri Lanka.

The French-based Borderless Media Network has offices in 13 regions of the world and a presence in 130 countries.
