The Galle Titans won the second game in a row by 83 runs against B-Love Kandy in the Lanka Premiere League (LPL) at R. Premadasa Stadium on Tuesday (1).
Titans Captain Dasun Shanaka won the decisive toss and decided to bat first. Openers Lasith Croospulle and Shevon Daniel added 33 runs for the first wicket.
In the end, Angelo Mathews dismissed Croospulle with a direct hit when he was at 11 runs. Bhanuka Rajapaksa failed to fire as Aamer Jamal restricted his innings to 4 runs.
Although Shevon Daniel scored 25 runs, he struggled to get going and by the 10th over, the Titans were 3 down for 60 runs.
However, Tim Seifert and Shakib Al Hasan turned the game around for the Titans. It was as if they were batting on a different pitch as they hit the Kandy bowlers all around the park. Tim Seifert played the most outstanding innings of the day as he scored 74 off 39 balls with 5 fours and 5 sixes.
Shakib Al Hasan scored 30 runs from 21 balls, and the partnership between the two for the fourth wicket was 95 runs.
Galle Titans finished at 180 runs. With the ball, Kandy’s Aamer Jamal, Mohommed Hasnain, and Wanindu Hasaranga took one wicket each.
With the bat, B-Love Kandy lost Dinesh Chandimal cheaply to Rajitha and Kamindu Mendis also perished for just 3 runs.
B-Love Kandy’s high hopes were on Angelo Mathews but he fell to Zimbabwe’s Richard Ngarava.
Just like in the Kandy Perahera, B-Love batsmen followed each other back to the pavilion. Wanindu Hasaranga was dismissed by Ngarava for 9. The lone warrior for Kandy was Ashen Bandara who scored 27 runs off 19 balls.
Isuru Udana chipped in with 16, but Tabraiz Shamsi dismissed Ashen and Udana, destroying the last hope of the Kandy team. Apart from him, Rajitha, Ngarava and Shakib also took two wickets each.
Because of this superb bowling from the Titans, B-Love Kandy succumbed at just 97 runs. Tim Seifert won the award as the hero of the match, who showed a great shooting show.
Thus, with all teams having played two matches each, Galle Titans are leading with 4 bonus points and a huge team scoring rate of +2.075.
